When I wrote “I’m not a racist, but I might be racist” this is exactly the point I was trying to make. We spend way too much time reinforcing our preconceived notions instead of challenging them. Perhaps it’s reflective of our one-stop-shop fast-food go-go-go society that we’ve become to apathetic to do the things that makes the most sense; stop, look, listen, then interpret.
There’s no better example of this apathy than the fact that’s one of my least read articles. It’s as though everyone saw the headline, considered it as having spoke for itself (which it didn’t), then carried on with their lives.
Nothing is gained when nothing is ventured. Not taking a moment to understand each other and ask all relative questions is exactly why we are moving backwards societally. Life simply can’t be distilled to yes/no, right/wrong, or black/white situations. If one needs evidence of this one need only observe the fact that humans are organic and thus analog. We are not mechanical and we are certainly not binary. It’s time to stop acting like robots and more like people.
