Only because their innate shame about their self identity — which is instilled and reinforced in most religions — won’t allow them to address who they are outside of harshly defined heterosexual archetypes. I have a theory that most sociopaths are sociopaths because they feel like they will never be able to be true to themselves; instead of embracing their own identity they bury it behind a toxic fascade that becomes a reinforced prison the longer they’re in denial. Like boxing a wild animal in a corner, eventually they have no choice but to lash out. Or should I say, they believe that’s their only choice. They COULD simply come to terms with their LGBTQ identity, instead of doubling down on their toxic masculinity. I spent a lot of time trying to be that kind of “man.” It only made me feel more damaged; and yes the church fed that damage.
